How to Remove Ticks From Your Pet
Use the steps below to safely remove a tick from your pet.
- Always wear gloves.
- Grasp the tick very close to the skin with a pair of fine-tipped tweezers.
- With a steady motion, pull the tick’s body away from the skin. Avoid crushing the tick to prevent infection.
- After removal, clean your pet’s skin with soap and warm water and dispose of the tick by placing it in alcohol or flushing it down the toilet.
- Use a tick medication to prevent further infestation. We sell Nexgard, Bravecto, Frontline Tritak, Vectra 3D, Scalibor collars, and Seresto collars for both prevention and killing of ticks.
NEVER quickly jerk or twist the tick out of the skin, NEVER apply a lit match or harsh chemicals to the tick as this can induce regurgitation in the tick, hastening transmission of pathogens, NEVER crush the tick as this may result in exposure of people and pets to infectious material.
